The 'People's University' follows a learner-centric approach and has successfully adopted a policy of openness and flexibility in entry qualifications, time taken for completion of a programme, and place of study.

The University, at present, offers 338 programmes of study through over 3,500 courses to a cumulative student strength of over 30 lakh students.

The programmes are offered by the University at the following levels: doctorate; masters and bachelors degree programmes; post-graduate and under-graduate diplomas; and certificates.

The education is disseminated in conventional, as well as emerging inter-disciplinary areas, such as consumer protection, disaster management, environment, human rights, tourism, women empowerment and child development, participatory forest management, participatory planning, resettlement and rehabilitation, teacher education, food and nutrition, continuing medical and health education, HIV/AIDs, laboratory techniques, and online learning.

One of the biggest contributions of the University has been making available to long-distance learners, courses which were hitherto exclusively limited to Face-to-Face classroom transactions. These include programmes in physical and natural sciences, nursing, health, engineering and technology, computers, library and information sciences and BEd degree, among others.

Pankaj Advani Died

The breaking news comes out that Director Pankaj Advani, who directed the film "Sankat City", died here Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 45. It is a very depressing and sad day for me personally. Pankaj Advani, a very dear and down to earth friend. He is agreat Director, and Each one have respect for him.

All bollywood looking sad for the Death of Pankaj Advani on thursday morning,shocked Anupam posted on his Twitter page: "I am shocked at the sudden demise of Pankaj Advani, director of one of my favourite films 'Sankat City'. To begin with, the Board had only 34 officials on its establishment which strength has now increased to 438. The first examination was conducted by the Board in 1970 at 99 examination centres. Presently, keeping in view the increased number of candidates and typical geographical conditions of the Pradesh, the Board has set up 1650 Examination centres throughout the State. Apart from a Liaison Office at Shimla, the Board has also established 19 Sale Book Depots/Information Centres in the Pradesh to cater to the needs of students. Public Service Commissions, both at the Union and at the State level, are amongst the most important Public Institutions with long traditions which have served well. The establishment of this Institution had its origin in the history of Indian nationalism and the persistent demand of the leaders of freedom movement for progressive Indianisation of the Civil Service under British Raj. The Montagu-Chelmsford Report accepted in principle the demand for Indianisation of the higher civil services and accordingly a provision for this was made in the Government of India Act, 1919. The Royal Commission of the Superior Civil Service in India under the Chairmanship of Lord Lee, in its 1924 Report, recommended setting up of Public Service Commission of India. The Public Service Commission of India was set up on 1st October, 1926 under the Chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker.
