Reliance Industries to Acquire Stake in Infotel- Pan India BWA Winner

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a substantial stake in Infotel Broadband Services (P) Ltd, which has emerged as a successful bidder in all the 22 circles (Pan India) of the auction for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum conducted by the DoT.

RIL said that it will invest about Rs 4,800 crore by way of subscription to fresh equity capital at par to be issued by Infotel Broadband. Post this investment, RIL will own 95% of the equity and Infotel Broadband will be a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited.

RIL claims that the broadband opportunity as a new frontier of knowledge economy in which it can take a leadership position and provide India with an opportunity to be in the forefront among the countries providing world-class 4G network and services. A single 20 MHz TDD spectrum when used with LTE (Long Term Evolution) has the potential of providing greater capacity when compared to existing communication infrastructure in the country.

India has witnessed substantial growth in the mobile subscriber base over the last decade. RIL's initiative will usher in a wireless broadband revolution in both, the urban and the rural areas all across the country by providing end-to-end data solutions for business enterprises, social organizations, educational and healthcare institutions and Indian consumers. This will give a fillip to rural upliftment by seamlessly connecting information and markets to the rural population on a real-time basis and will help bridge the rural-urban divide in terms of access to knowledge and information.

RIL plans to create world class state- of-the-art technology using an asset light strategy. RIL will forge several strategic relations with a host of leading global technology players, service providers, infrastructure providers, application developers, device manufacturers and others to leapfrog India to the 4G revolution.

Being GREEN, Is In! Are you doing your part?With so much awareness about environmental issues happening in our background and whatever we do does not seem to be enough, but then we continue with our contributions for the same.

So does Bharti Airtel, besides their silent campaigns and efforts towards environmental concerns and issues, this is an initiative taken up by Airtel. But this time around its with the support and contribution of its customers. And has it worked?

Well Airtel has started paperless billing for its customers for quite some time now, and Bharti Airtel has a substantial share of the customers opting for the paperless billing.

Bharti Airtel Gujarat circle customers registering for e-bill has gone up from 5% last year to 30% in the current year. Bharti Airtel through many attractive initiatives has been constantly encouraging more paper bill customers to opt for e-billing and e-transactions.

This green initiative was designed to promote mobile phone usage as an efficient tool to generate e-Bills, e-Payments and e-Transactions, thereby saving tonnes of paper as well as save time and reduce fuel consumption.

To popularise the paperless billing among Airtel customers every time a customer dialling to Airtel customer care centre the executive of the customer care centre will brief the customer to opt for the paperless billing. India’s BWA Auction Ends, Infotel is Pan-India Winner

India’s auction for Auction for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) licence ended today with bids for pan-India licence touching Rs 12,850 crore with the government clocking a total revenue of Rs.38,543.31 crore.

According to the provisional results announced by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) telecom biggies Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular Tata Communication and Reliance Wimax Ltd have opted out of the race. The Infotel Broadband Services has won bid for all the 22 circles while Aircel won 8, Bharti Airtel and Qualcomm won in 4 circles, Tikona in 5 and Augere 1 circle.

The State operators BSNL and MTNL, which have already been been given spectrum, ahead of the private players, will have to pay the equivalent of the winning bid in each service area.

According to the International Telecommunication Union, BWA can deliver download speed of 100 mbps to 1 gbps. However till date download speed of 70 mbps have been achieved in lab condition.

Leading telecom players Bharti Airtel, Reliance Wimax Ltd, Idea Cellular, Aircel, Augere Mauritius, Qualcomm, Infotel Broadband Services, Spice Internet Service Provider, Tata Communications, Tikona Digital Networks and Vodafone Essar  participated in the BWA auction to acquire the two slots on offer.

Nokia Launches Mobile Money Services in Pune and Chandigarh

Nokia, a global leader in the mobile telecommunications industry and YES BANK, India's new-age private sector Bank, today commercially launched innovative mobile payments platform in Pune (Maharashtra) and Chandigarh to facilitate customer convenience and encourage financial inclusion in India.

The Yes Bank Mobile Money Services powered  by Nokia will allow its mobile phone users to transfer money to another person by using the person’s mobile phone number and also Top-up the prepaid card of any mobile services or pay postpaid mobile/land line and utility bills as well as cashless shopping.

The Mobile Money Service pilot project was announced in February in Pune for selected customers. After the successful test, now the services are commercially available to all Yes Bank and Nokia customers wherein they can pay for shopping and Utility bills through direct from their Nokia mobile phones.

Initially the Mobile Money Services are available in Pune and Chandigarh city.To avail the services Nokia customer may visit any Nokia priority dealer or Yes Bank’s branches at Bhandarkar Road, Hinjewadi and Kondhave Khurd in Pune city and Sector 9 C in Chandigarh. Nokia also introduces toll free helpline number 1800-3000-1122 to assist its customer on Mobile Money services.

D Shivakumar, VP and Managing Director, Nokia India said “Mobile Money Services by YES BANK is based on Obopay's payments platform and designed to work in partnership with mobile network operators and banks, involving distributors and merchants in a dynamic ecosystem, to seamlessly provide new services. YES BANK is our first partner in India to bring this service to market.”
